MIIUNI
Transmedial Fluctuations of the Landscape

MIIUNI collects and resemantizes the noises, textures, voices and sound anchors of some courtyards in Córdoba, Spain, where the poet and artist Rocío Cerón (based in Mexico City) carried out a three-month artistic residency in 2022 under the auspices of Córdoba Ciudad de las Ideas. The pieces allow us to read the present, past and possible future of these spaces in other ways.

In the work Cerón, transdisciplinary production is revealed as a research process on memory and the way in which its forms in language and its sound and visual landscapes create readings of displacement, of what we read about the realities and meanings of intimate space and its dimension with the world. For her, the territory is the sound, the poem and its return to the public space.

The private of the public is the phrase that came to mind when listening and seeing to Rocío Cerón's MIIUNI project, a Purepecha word that means “telling and knowing a place”. This project consisted of intervening with poetry and sound art, courtyards in the city of Córdoba, Spain. Courtyards that, in the public space of the city, become private when walking through them. The steps weave the spaces, since “walking is to the urban system what enunciation is to language”, according to Michel de Certeau (The invention of the Everyday, pp. 109-110). Enunciation of the artist when visiting them for the first time, of the passers-by who attended the interventions, and through the five pieces that make up this EP, we privately go through those public spaces by listening to them: from the running of the water of its fountains, the singing of the birds, the conversations of its inhabitants and the cars in the distance. And when we listen we perceive that, as Cerón tells us, “Every courtyard is an interior courtyard”.

Fluctuaciones Transmediales del Paisaje

MIIUNI recoge y resemantiza los ruidos, texturas, voces y anclajes sonoros de algunos patios de Córdoba, España donde la poeta y artista Rocío Cerón realizó una Residencia artística de tres meses en 2022 bajo el auspicio de Córdoba Ciudad de las Ideas. Las piezas permitan leer de otras formas el presente, pasado y posibles futuros de dichos espacios.
En la obra de Cerón, la producción transdisciplinar se revela como un proceso de investigación sobre la memoria y la manera en que sus formas en el lenguaje y sus paisajes sonoros y visuales crean lecturas del desplazamiento, de lo que leemos sobre las realidades y significados del espacio íntimo y su dimensión con el mundo. Para ella el territorio es el sonido, el poema y su vuelta al espacio público.

Lo privado de lo público, es la frase que me vino a la mente al escuchar y ver el proyecto de Rocío Cerón MIIUNI, palabra purépecha que significa contar y conocer un lugar. Dicho proyecto consistió en intervenir con poesía y arte sonoros, patios de la ciudad de Córdoba, España. Patios que, en el espacio público de la ciudad, se vuelven privados al transitarlos. Los pasos tejen los espacios, pues “caminar es al sistema urbano lo que la enunciación es la lengua”, de acuerdo a Michel de Certeau (La invención de lo Cotidiano, pp. 109-110). Enunciación de la artista al visitarlos por primera vez, de los transeúntes que asistieron a las intervenciones, y a través de las cinco piezas que componen este EP, nosotros recorremos en lo privado esos patios públicos por medio de su escucha: desde el correr del agua de sus fuentes, el cantar de los pájaros, las conversaciones de sus habitantes y los coches a la distancia. Y al escuchar percibimos que, como nos dice Cerón, “Todo patio es un patio interior”.
